Gelabert-Azzopardi is one of the most outstanding dance companies in Spain.
Its personal and distinctive style in the world of the performing arts has brought it
international fame.
The company was founded in Barcelona in 1985 by
Cesc Gelabert and
Lydia Azzopardi. Its artistic quality has gained both national and international
recognition, thanks to a number of choreographic productions which, besides winning various awards,
have been acclaimed by spectators and critics alike.
From 1989 to 2003 the company was co-resident at the Hebbel-Theater in Berlin. It was an
associate company at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona between 1987 and 2003, since then it has
been a resident company there.
As well as creating its own productions,
Gelabert-Azzopardi has choreographed works for the Balletto di Toscana,
Tanztheater Komische Oper, Ballet Gulbenkian, Mikhail Baryshnikov and David Hughes.
The company has collaborated with some well-known stage personalities, such as Nuria Espert,
Gerardo Vera, Lluis Pasqual, Emilio Sagi, Mario Gas and Pilar Miró, amongst others, as well as with
the fashion house Hermès.
